Brian Lee Shipler

February 23, 1971 - October 12, 2012

Brian Shipler, 41, of Britt passed away Friday, October 12, 2012 at Hancock County Health Sysytem in Britt.

Funeral services for Brian Shipler will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the Church of the Nazarene, 195 2nd Street SW, in Britt with Pastor John Paulus officiating.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Brian, the son of Kenny and LeAnne Shipler  was born on February 23, 1971 in Britt, Iowa.  He grew up on a farm north of Britt with his parents and two sisters.

Brian graduated from Woden- Crystal Lake High School in 1989. After high school, he attended Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa where he received a degree in Diesel Mechanics. He had most recently been operating heavy equipment for Wright County Materials in Belmond, Iowa.

Brian was the happiest when he was able to use heavy machinery to move dirt. He loved to play practical jokes and those he was closest to were often his target.  He would be the first to admit he had a warped sense of humor, yet this was what made him unique.  Brian was one of those people who would give you the shirt off his back if he knew you needed it.  His two dogs, Dorothy and Sam, affectionately referred to as his “kids”, were a source of joy for him.  He doted on them in every possible way and they will surely miss him.

Throughout his life, Brian had many friends; his closest ones continually supportive through life’s battles.  He was not one to openly express emotions, instead preferring the quiet and solitude, yet he knew what a blessing these friends were.  He loved his nieces and nephews, and to their delight, often chose to randomly surprise them with sweets.  They too, will miss him.
