Alan Eekhoff, 50, of Kanawha passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 doing what he loved, farming near Kanawha.

Funeral services for Alan Eekhoff will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the Evangelical Free Church of Britt, 810 2nd Avenue North West in Britt with Pastor Stan Johnson officiating.  Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery near Kanawha.

Al was born December 15, 1964, in Belmond, the son of John and the late Thelma (Verhoef) Eekhoff.  He was a graduate of the Kanawha Christian School and Kanawha High School in 1983 and following graduation attended Dordt College.  Al met his wife, Lori De Groot, at Dordt and they married on August 23, 1986 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  Following their marriage, Al and Lori resided in Sioux Center while Lori finished college and Al worked for a farmer.  Al and Lori lived in New Sharon for a brief time where he worked for Pella Windows before moving back to Kanawha to the home they shared for 27 years.

Al and Lori were blessed with four sons and later two grandchildren.  Al especially enjoyed spending time with his family, working on the farm with his dad and sons, and always lending a helping hand to whomever he could.  Al was a very supportive father and loved watching his sons participate in various events growing up.  He had a special love for children and a dry sense of humor that endeared him to everyone who knew him.  Al was a man of few words but always a man of his word. Al served his community by volunteering as an EMT for several years.  Previously, Al served as a deacon for the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. He also served on the Kanawha Christian School Board.  Most recently, Al was a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Britt where he served as a deacon and enjoyed weekly fellowship with his life group.  Most important to him was his relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and he desired that others know Him too.

Alan is survived by his wife of over 29 years, Lori (De Groot) Eekhoff; his four sons, Andrew (Amanda) Eekhoff, and their daughter, Avery of Britt, Jeremy (Emily) Eekhoff,  and their son, Liam of Waukee, Jonathan (Ahnalise) Eekhoff, of  Kanawha, and Michael Eekhoff, of Kanawha; his father, John Eekhoff of Kanawha;  his sister Cathy (Mark) Dattoli of Elmhurst, Illinois; his brothers Byron (Cindy) Eekhoff of Pella and David (Melinda) Eekhoff of Hull; along with many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by Lori's parents, Lee and Carolyn De Groot, of Oskaloosa; sister-in-law, Lana De Groot of Oskaloosa; brothers-in-law, Larry (Sue) De Groot, of Rose Hill and LaVerne (Kristi) De Groot, of Arvada, Colorado; step brother-in-law, John (Angie) Armstrong and step sister-in-law Yoma (Gary) Lancial, all of Oskaloosa.

Al was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma (Verhoef) Eekhoff, mother-in-law Linda (Van Ommen) De Groot and brother-in-law Leon De Groot.

Memorial contributions can be made out to the Evangelical Free Church of Britt.
