Alvin Dorenkamp, son of John and Kate (Pals) Dorenkamp, was born on March 30, 1922 in Belmond. He grew up in the Belmond area and attended country school in rural Belmond.

On January 3, 1945, Alvin was united in marriage to Anna Margaret Soma at the Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage. The couple made their home around rural Belmond. Alvin was a hard-working farmer for all his life. In 1971, Alvin and Margaret moved to Clear Lake while Alvin farmed their land near Burchinal. After 32 years of living in Clear Lake, the couple moved back to Belmond. In retirement, the couple spent their winters in Dallas, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona as their health permitted.

Alvin accepted Christ as his savior when he was 24 years old. His personal relationship with Jesus was very important to him and enabled him to look forward to his heavenly home. He often shared the importance of needing to be born again. He would often say, “You must be born again”. He was a devoted church attender, member and served in various leadership roles.

Alvin was a loving husband and father. His family was very important to him. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Alvin enjoyed playing games and reading his Bible.

Alvin is survived by his four children Dennis (Helen) Dorenkamp of Peoria, Arizona, Harlan (Denise) Dorenkamp of Belmond, Marcia (Larry) Christensen of Thornton, and Beverly Dorenkamp of Scottsdale, Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-granddaughters; two brothers Donald (Betty) Dorenkamp of Belmond and Calvin Dorenkamp of Mason City; and many other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 2014; parents; three brothers Herman, Dick and Benjamin; and great-granddaughter Shelby Jo.
