Obituary


Arland LeRoy Anderson age 76 of Clarion, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2004 at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2004, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion, with Fr. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday January 25, 2004 at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, 602 North Main St. in Clarion and one hour prior to services at the church. Scripture service will be held Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arland L. Anderson was born June 11, 1927 in Eagle grove, Iowa. He and his family moved to Clarion at the age of 11. He attended Clarion school and graduated from Clarion High School in 1945. Arlie enlisted in the U.S. Navy during his senior year he left immediately after graduation and served until 1946.

On June 28, 1947 he and Dorothy Reiland were united in marriage at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion.

Arlie worked for the Wright County Monitor from 1940 to 1956. He was also employed with the Chicago Great Western Railroad which was later Chicago Northwestern Railroad from 1952 to 1987. Arlie was also employed with Buttr’ Topp Bakery at Clear Lake from 1956 to 1960 while off work from the Railroad. He retired early after suffering a stroke in 1987.

He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and had served on the Parish Council. Arlie enjoyed golf, bingo, and woodworking.

Arlie is survived by his wife Dorothy and three children. James and his wife Vicki of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Deborah and her husband Mike Downs of Waterloo, and Joe of Clarion, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Virginia Melhus of Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Wilma Anderson and a sister Ruby Smith of Dubuque.
