Obituary


Arnold Lodin, 85, of Kanawha passed away Friday, July 10, 2015 at Westview Care Center in Britt.

Funeral services for Arnold Lodin will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Kanawha Lutheran Church, 124 West Fourth Street in Kanawha with Pastor Geoffrey White officiating. Burial will be held in Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.

Visitation for Arnold Lodin will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East 2nd Street in Kanawha, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Arnold “Arnie” Kenneth Lodin was born on January 8, 1930 to Austin and Olga (Jacobsen) Lodin in Thompson, Iowa. Arnold grew up in Thompson and graduated High School there with the class of 1948.

Arnold married Gladys Johnson in January of 1951 in Thompson, Iowa. To this union, two sons were born, Dennis and Tim. Shortly after they were married, Arnold enlisted in the Army, serving in the Korean War. The family later moved to Kanawha in 1967.

Arnold farmed before he started working for the City of Kanawha. Arnold loved his job and could always be found around town whistling or humming. He especially enjoyed getting up early and moving snow.

He loved reading the newspaper front to back, listening to country music, fishing, gardening, and riding his bike everywhere. The family enjoyed many trips camping in Brainerd, Minnesota on Gull Lake.

Arnold will be remembered as a go-getter who was a good, simple man.

Arnold is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gladys Lodin; his two children Dennis (Dawn Hansen) Lodin of Deep Haven, Minnesota and Tim (Colleen) Lodin of Kanawha; grandchildren Jeffrey (Alexa) Lodin of Kanawha and Brooke (Heath) Tulp of Britt; one great grandchild Sofia Lodin; nephew Kerby (Robyn) Lodin of Albert Lea, Minnesota; sister-in-law Judy Lodin of Thompson; along with extended family and friends.

Arnold is preceded in death by his parents Austin and Olga, his brothers Lawrence Lodin and Darold Lodin, and niece Lori Lodin.
