Obituary


Bernard Scheppler, 87, of Clarion passed away Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Clarion.

Funeral services for Bernard Scheppler will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 115 3rd Avenue Northwest, Clarion with Pastor Bill Kem officiating. Burial will take place at Galt Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM prior to the service on Saturday at the church. 

Bernard Ivan Scheppler was born on a farm near Woolstock, Iowa on April 27, 1928 to Louis and Violet Scheppler. He attended rural school in Woolstock, Iowa and public school in Galt, Iowa.

He enlisted in the Army in 1950 and served with the 24th Infantry Division in Korea for two years. Following his discharge in 1952, he spent five years in the Army Reserves.

Bernard worked at the Clarion Post Office for 34 years before his retirement as Postmaster on November 3, 1989.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational of Clarion, the American Legion Post # 246, the Cyrene Lodge # 325, the El Kahir Shrine and the Wright County Shrine Club.

He is survived by four children: Denise Scheppler , Marie (Bill) Rasso, Renee (Steve) Winchester, and Tom (Donna) Scheppler; four stepchildren: Brenda (Chris) Ludlow , Bob (Linda) Wiggins, Brad (Renee) Wiggins, and Bridget (Ted) Bleimehl; six grandchildren: Brianna Greene, Blake Winchester, Grant Winchester, Jack Barrett, Zachary Barrett, and Jacob Barrett; two great-grandchildren: Travis Greene and Gideon Greene; and two sisters: Marjorie Tudor and Beverly Johnson, as well as multiple nieces and nephews who were dear to his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Mildred, Dorothy, and Darlene; and brothers: Delbert, Wilmer, and John.
