Obituary


Betty J. Worden, 87 of Hampton and formerly of Dows, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton. Funeral services for Betty Worden will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 204 East South Street in Latimer, with Pastor Joseph Dunnwald officiating. Burial will take place at Marion Center Cemetery rural Latimer. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Betty Jean, daughter of Connie and Esther (Muhlenbruch) Olk, was born on August 27, 1930 near Latimer. She grew up in the Latimer area and graduated from Franklin Consolidated High School. Betty met Gordon Worden after he returned home from serving in the Korean Conflict. The couple was united in marriage on May 20, 1956 at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer. In their first few years of marriage, four children were brought into their home through adoption; Jean, Kevin, Lynn and Nancy. Betty and Gordon farmed for nearly 20 years before moving to their home in Dows. In her working years, Betty worked for Dr. Wirtz’s dental practice for a short time and later provided childcare for many kids in Dows. Betty enjoyed watching birds, putting together puzzles, making quilts and crafts. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Betty is survived by her children Kevin Worden, Jean Worden, Lynn (Margaret) Worden, and Nancy (David) Lijadu; grandchildren Adam (Cassandra) Underwood, Megan (Matt) Ring, Brittany (Jake) Carlson, and Taylor Seals; great-grandchildren Genessa and Jaxen Underwood, Kaeson and Karlee Ring, Huck Carlson and Madison; sister Janice (J. Paul) Artz; and sisters-in-law Mardel Weber and Dixie Olk. She is preceded in death by her husband in 2011; parents; and brothers and sisters.
