Obituary


Calvin C. Schulte, 88, of Belmond passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Memorial services for Calvin Schulte will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the First Reformed Church, 214 Brown Street in Alexander. Calvin was born July 29, 1929 to Chris and Minnie (Bonte) Schulte in Alexander. He worked at the Schulte Grain Elevator in Alexander and graduated from the Alexander School in 1947. He married Lola E. Markwardt on January 15, 1950. The couple farmed north of Alexander for over 50 years. Calvin and Lola enjoyed to traveling with their family. Also, they loved to fish, spending many summers in Minnesota and Canada. During their retirement, Calvin and Lola spent their winters in Mesa, AZ, where he enjoyed making jewelry and stained glass art. Calvin was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lola, a daughter Barbara Peil, his parents, Chris and Minnie, an infant brother, John, two sisters, Evelyn Barkema, and Arlene Bier, a niece, Janelle Barkema, and longtime friend, Lem Long. Calvin is survived by his son Corwin (Carla) Schulte of Alexander, daughter Nancy (Tim) Green of Columbus, Ohio, and Loran Peil of Alexander; five grandsons, Robert (Cindy) Peil of Coulter, Jeff (Ashleigh) Peil of Urbandale, Adam (Chelsea) Green of Alexander, Sean Green of Mason City and Ian Green of Mason City, four great grandchildren Evan and Camden Peil of Coulter and Lochlain and Amara Peil of Urbandale.
