Obituary


Christopher James Hartwig, 65, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at his home in Kanawha. A memorial service will be held for Chris Hartwig at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Kanawha with Pastor Mark Heath officiating. A private graveside service will be held in Amsterdam Township Cemetery near Kanawha. Chris, the son of Jim and Gertrude (Ruter) Hartwig, was born April 15, 1952, in Clarion. He attended and graduated from the Kanawha Community School in 1970. He was in chorus, band (saxophone), football, and basketball. After graduation, he worked various jobs in the area and helped his parents work in their restaurant, “The Shed” in Kanawha. Chris moved to Mason City, met Michelle Hesley, and became a father to Shawn Hesley. They had three daughters, Crystal, Starshine, and Candy. Chris was a confirmed member of the Kanawha United Methodist Church. He enjoyed refinishing furniture and fishing at East Twin Lakes. Chris is survived by his stepson Shawn (Randi) Hesley of Clear Lake and their children Katie, Samuel and Andrew Hesley; daughter Starshine Hesley of Mason City, daughter Candy (Jason) Garcia of Mason City and their children Marcene Wurth and Alexis Garcia, and daughter Crystal (Roberto) Cotoc and their children Magdalena, Marisol, Francisco, and Emilio Ramirez; sister Jodia (Dennis) Spieker of Hayfield; sister Julia (Rick) Jordan of Farmer’s Branch, Texas; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and life-long friend Tim Weiss. Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Gert.
