Obituary


Corene M. Hammen, 87, of Clarion, Iowa passed away Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Corene Hammen will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion with Monsignor John Hemann officiating.  Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation for Corene Hammen will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at the Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street, in Clarion and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Corene Mary Hammen was born on July 22, 1922 in Calumet, Oklahoma to Charles and Katherine Reding.

Corene was united in marriage to Earl E. Hammen on November 12, 1946 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rockwell City, Iowa. They were married for 55 years before Earl’s passing in 2001.

Corene farmed with Earl in the Jolly and Jefferson-Churdan area before moving to Clarion in 1967. The couple retired to their home in Clarion in 1987 where Corene lived until her passing.

Corene enjoyed playing Bingo, beating her kids and grandkids at cards, sewing circle and visiting with friends and family. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, a past member of the Catholic Daughters, St. John’s Altar Society and St. John’s Sewing Circle.

She is survived by her children Jeanne (Gale) Hodson of Altoona, Earl Jr. (Carmel) Hammen of Clarion, Timothy (Karole) Hammen of Thornton, David Hammen of Clarion, Kathleen (Tony) Hogle of Clarion, Richard (Sue) Hammen of Clarion, Edward (Mary) Hammen of Clarion, and Elaine (Vance) Kolb of Clarion; Fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters, all of Oklahoma, Clara Schwarz, Irene (Martin) Parizek, and Catherine (Bob) Brungard, along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Corene is preceded in death by parents Charles and Katherine Reding, brothers Tony, Charles and Gene Reding, sister Anna Ketter and beloved husband, Earl.
