Obituary


Dale J. “Pinkie” Walrod, 90, formerly of Belmond and of Clear Lake’s Apple Valley, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services for Dale Walrod will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 304 3rd Avenue Northeast in Belmond, with Pastor Dawn Pederson officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation and a time to celebrate Dale’s life by sharing memories will be held prior to services at the church on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 AM.

Dale, the son of William and Jeanette Mickelson Walrod, was born October 9, 1927 in Belmond Iowa, the youngest of ten children. He grew up in Belmond and attended Belmond schools until entering the United States Marine Corps in 1945.

Dale was united in marriage with Nadine Hanson on May 25, 1949. Dale’s career in law enforcement took the couple to the following communities: Belmond, Clarion, Norwalk, Oelwein, Ankeny, Spirit Lake and back to Belmond. Dale began his career as a police officer for the city of Belmond and retired from law enforcement as Chief Special Agent for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad out of Des Moines. Dale and Nadine enjoyed their retirement back in the community in which they grew up.

Dale was a member of VFW and Trinity Lutheran Church of Belmond. He loved all things in nature and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and loved ones!

Dale is survived by his children, Tim (Diane) Walrod of Hanlontown, Iowa and Faith (Dennis) Hoyer of Sabula, Iowa. Also, grandchildren; Chris Hoyer of Estherville, Iowa, Cory (Michelle) Hoyer of Estherville, Mikan (Phil) Sheldon of Algonquin, Illinois, Erica (Anthony) Felkey of Preston, Iowa, Lyndsay (Mathew) Schulz of Centennial, Colorado. Step-grandchildren; Alissa (Gary) Dean of Joice, Iowa, Angela Gomez of Hanlontown, Dan (Kim) Lloyd of Helena Montana, Alanna (Jordan) Davison of Plymouth, Iowa, and 16 great-grandchildren, along with many wonderful nieces and nephews!

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nadine in 2009, three sisters: Helen Busick, Lois Hanson and June Hansen; six brothers; Clayton, Charles, Gerald, Lawrence, William, and Douglas.
