Obituary


Dean R. McCormick, 91, of Clarion passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion.

Funeral services for Dean will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 121 3rd Avenue Northwest in Clarion, with Pastor Bill Kem officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue in Clarion.

Dean R. McCormick was born July 15, 1926 to Raymond and Fern (Waddell) McCormick in Clarion. He was raised and educated in Clarion.

Dean was united in marriage to Ruth Soren on September 23, 1951 at the Little Brown Church. The couple raised their three children on the family farm in Clarion.

Dean’s farming career spanned more than 80 years. In addition to traditional crop farming, Dean milked cows, raised hogs and cattle. Last week he was preparing for cattle and working farm ground for Spring planting, doing what he loved to do.

Dean served in the United States Navy during World War II. He continued to serve back home in Clarion at Memorial Day, Veterans Day and as a member of the honor guard at funerals.

Dean will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. It was his dedication to his wife Ruth that continues to serve as an inspiration to his family.

Dean is survived by his children Rick (Nancy) McCormick of Lawrence, Kansas, Christi (Harold) Patterson of Yellville, Arkansas and Scott (Linda) McCormick of Clarion; grandchildren Pat McCormick and his girlfriend Nikki and her children Addi, Hutch and Nevi; Katie (Carlos) Rivera and their children Ramon, Johnny and Wyatt; Matt (Roberta) McCormick and their son Ryan; Tony McCormick; Karen (Jon) Watkins and their children Rachel, Claire and Emma; sister-in-law Ruby McCormick; his beloved dog, Pepper; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, sister Marjorie Sanders, brothers Duane McCormick and Glenn McCormick, sister-in-law Sue McCormick and brother-in-law Delmar Sanders.
