Obituary

Denny A. Kyhl, 65, of Britt passed away Sunday, February 18, 2001, at his residence in Britt.

Denny, the son of Emil and Evelyn (Truitt) Kyhl was born February 19, 1935 in Forsyth, Montana.  He lived with his family on the ranch near Colstrip until moving into Colstrip where his Dad owned a tavern.  The family then moved to Billings, Montana and lived until 1949 when they moved to Britt, Iowa.

Denny enjoyed many athletic activities in his early years.  He enjoyed swimming across Crystal Lake, water skiing, snow skiing, playing tennis and many other sports.  Denny was also very adept in the sciences and was a loved to play cards with his family and friends.

Denny graduated from Britt High School and married Scherry Davis on May 29, 1952.  Later that year he opened Kyhl TV and Repair on Britt's Main Street.  In 1964, he developed crippling arthritis and had to pursue another field.  Confined to a wheel chair, Denny went to college in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Ottumwa, Iowa where he earned a degree in Computer Engineering.  He was immediately hired by Control Data Corporation and relocated his family to San Jose, California in January 1968 where he worked in the Silicon Valley within high security military defense programs.  Later he moved his family to Minneapolis where he taught computer technology and developed mainframe computers.  In the early 80's he returned to California working in the field and traveling around the world teaching computer technology.  In 1986, he accepted a management position with McDonnell Douglas's high security office.  In 1988 he retired to Britt with his wife Scherry.

Denny was considered a genius by his peers and was truly a man ahead of his time.  His family admires the strength that he had in persevering through Rheumatic Fever, the few years in a wheelchair and gradually being able to walk again, and through a major stroke in the early 90's, given no chance of survival and pulling through again to spend a few more years with his family.  His family and friends are going to miss this truly wonderful and brilliant man.

Denny is survived by his mother, Evelyn; his children: Dianna Frederick and her husband, Dick, Bozeman, Montana, Mark Kyhl and his wife Barb, Britt, and Debbie Younger and her husband, Michael, Walnut Grove, California; grandchildren: Brenden Elwood and his wife, Wynter, Walnut Creek, California, Allison Elwood, Cascade, Colorado, Shawn Kyhl and his wife, Angie, Plymouth, Indiana, Amber Askren and her husband, Alan and Damien Kyhl, Britt, Michele Younger and Sondra Younger, Rio Vista, California, and Jennifer Younger, Walnut Grove, California; six great-grandchildren; brothers: Emil Kyhl, Jr. and his wife, eleanor, Granada Hills, California, Arlen Kyhl and his wife, Tressa of Billings, Montana, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
