Obituary


Doris Bee (Albertson) Bateson, 93, of Longwood, Florida and formerly of Belmond, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Hospice of the Comforter facility in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Funeral services for Bee Bateson will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Belmond United Methodist Church, 1031 First Street Southeast in Belmond, with Pastor Leila Blackburn officiating. Burial will be at Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM on Friday, February 9 at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 24th, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Asbury United Methodist Church, 220 Horatio Avenue West in Maitland, Florida, 32751.

Doris Bee was born to Paul Eugene and Beatrice (Mann) Albertson on April 3, 1924 on a farm near Humboldt, Kansas. She had one sister, Christina (Crissie) Jean {married Robert Endicott}.

Doris Bee attended 1st grade in Humboldt, Kansas. She was baptized in the Baptist Church and attended 2nd through 5th grade in Chillicothe, Missouri. Her mother and father divorced. Mother, Doris Bee, and Christina moved to Excelsior Springs, Missouri. Doris Bee finished high school and graduated from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri in May 1947. She majored in Spanish, minored in French & English.

She met her future husband, Owen Edward Bateson, on June 13, 1945 when he was in the Navy Air Corps and came to William Jewell College for pre-flight training. The couple became engaged in December of 1946. They were married on March 20, 1947 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. They were blessed with three children; Susan Bee, Brian Thomas, and Robert Carl.

The family moved from Excelsior Springs, Missouri to Weldon, Madrid, Tabor, Hamburg, Coon Rapids, and Gray, Iowa. While living in Gray, Bee taught fifth grade at Audubon Schools. From Gray the family moved to Belmond in June 1964 where Bee taught Spanish and English classes at the high school. She joined the Belmond Methodist Church, the Clarmond Country Club, and Belmond Country Club. Bee belonged to the United Methodist Women, Joy Circle, Rebecca Circle, craft club, and the Prayer's Club. After retirement, they spent the winters in Panama City, Florida, and with their son Brian in Altamonte Springs, Florida. After Owen passed away in September of 2007, she remained in Belmond spending winters with her children. In 2011, she moved to Longwood, Florida.

Doris Bee is survived by her children: Susan Bee Harding and her husband Barry, Brian Thomas Bateson and his wife Janet, Robert Carl Bateson and his wife Susan. Her grandchildren: Brea Reger and her husband Rob, James Bateson and his wife Natalia, Jill Kruger and her husband Sam, Julie Counsell and her husband Anthony. Her great grandchildren: Zachary Epperson, Isaac (Zeke) Epperson, Soleis Reger, Sienna Reger, Shaylee Reger, Alexander Kruger, Maxwell Kruger, and Rexford Kruger.

She was preceded in death by her husband Owen Edward Bateson, her mother Beatrice Bee Satterlee, her step father Carl T. Satterlee, her sister Christina Endicott and her husband Robert, and her grandson Blake Bateson.
