Obituary


Doris Lou Hilpipre, 89, of Clarion, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012, at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Clarion.

Funeral services for Doris Hilpipre will be held Wednesday, December 19, 2012, 11:00 AM, at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 121 3rd Avenue NW, in Clarion, with Pastor Bill Kem officiating.  Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.   Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Clarion, on Wednesday.   Doris Lou Hilpipre, the daughter of Frank William and Clara Elizabeth (Rust) Baxter, was born on July 15, 1923, in Sheffield, Iowa.  The family moved to Britt in 1928, where Doris went to school, graduating from Britt High School in 1941.  Doris then attended the Junior College in Britt for two years. On November 8, 1947, Doris was united in marriage to Marvin Hilpipre at the Methodist Parsonage in Britt.  The couple farmed south of Clarion for many years until moving into Clarion in 1976.  Doris worked at Tomke Drug for 30 years and Hagen Gifts as a clerk and Nelson Plumbing until her retirement in 2010. Doris was a baptized member, for over 50 years, of the United Church of Christ Congregational where she was very involved and taught Sunday school. Doris was an active member of the community.  She helped organize the Wall Lake 4H Club, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 70 years, 4H judge, Navy Mothers for over 40 years, co-chaired bingo for 6 years, a Charter Member of the Wright Medical Center Auxiliary, helped establish the gift shop at the hospital and, in 2010, was named Auxiliary and Volunteer Shining Star by the Iowa Hospital Association. Doris loved to travel and had visited 49 states.  She was an avid reader, volunteered a lot of her time and liked to crochet, knit and embroider items for family and friends.   Playing cards was another activity she enjoyed. Doris is survived by her son Terry (Kathy) Hilpipre of Clarion; daughter-in-law Anita Hilpipre of Woolstock; grandchildren:  BriAnne (Jeff) Hiatt of Littleton, Colorado, Garrett Hilpipre of Denver, Colorado, Greg Hilpipre of Denver, Colorado, Ginger (Gareth) Brown of Forest Field, Western Australia; step-grandson Chad (Alicia) Babcock of Columbia, Alabama and his 2 sons Evan and John; sister Phyllis Hughes of Clear Lake; along with nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; son Gary; brother Carroll Baxter; sister Donnabelle Moats.
