Obituary


Doris M. Shear, 94, of Garner and formerly of Kanawha, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services for Doris Shear will be held on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 1:30 PM at Kanawha Lutheran Church, 124 West Fourth Street in Kanawha, with Pastors Geoffrey and Char White officiating. Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Memorials may be directed to Kanawha Lutheran Church or Concord Care Center in Garner.

Doris Mae, daughter of Joseph L. and Ruth (Richardson) Larson, was born on November 12, 1923 on a farm near Belmond. Doris grew up in the Belmond area and attended Belmond Schools. After high school, Doris went to cosmetology school at La James in Mason City. Doris cut and styled hair for over 50 years at her salon, Doris’ Beauty Center.

Doris enjoyed doing genealogy. She even traveled to Norway, Germany, and Italy to see family. Every year, Doris looked forward to their Christmas Cup of Tea tradition with the Larson girls. Doris’ family was very important to her and she always kept in touch. She was active in her community and was on the Hancock County Board of Health Committee. Doris loved the Labor Day Parade in Kanawha.

Doris is survived by her three children Daphne (Dean) Anderson of Huxley, Cookie Elleri of Long Beach, CA, and Dallas (Sandy) Shear of Ventura; four grandchildren Dana Anderson, Michelle Eisenman, Michael Eisenman, and Jon Shear; 11 great-grandchildren Nicholas Anderson Glass, Kierstin Anderson-Glass, Jake Brager, Josh Brager, Jennifer Babe, Ché Eisenman, Kaylin Eisenman, Alyssa Eisenman, Hayden Shear, Lyla Shear, and Brody Shear; two great-great-grandchildren Karter Brager and Mia Brager; two sisters Clarice Yarger and JoAnn Betten; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister Marian Didio; two brothers James Russell Larson and Lowell Larson; son-in-law Andres (Andy) Elleri, two grandsons Charlie Shear and Jeffrey Eisenman; and one great-grandson Matthew Anderson-Glass.
