Earl E. Hammen Jr.

Earl Eugene Hammen Jr., 68, of Clarion passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion and with care from Gateway Hospice, after a short battle of cancer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church, 608 2nd Avenue North East in Clarion, with Father Jerry Blake officiating. Burial will take place at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Earl was born on April 18, 1949 to Earl Sr. and Corene (Reding) in Lake City, Iowa. Earl attended schools in Jefferson area before moving to Clarion in 1966 and graduated from Clarion High School in 1968.

After graduation Earl went to Rockwell City and farmed with Leo Monahan. Earl was involved with construction and semi driving with his brother Tim. Earl started driving for Ennis Truckline in 1980’s.

Earl was united in marriage to Carmel M. Denger on July 31, 1982 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion.

Earl worked at Hagie Manufacturing for 26 years. He also farmed, raising crops and cattle.

Earl and Carmel enjoyed riding and driving Haflingers and Clydesdale Quarter Horse. He belonged to the Hitching to Go Driving Club. He raised Cocker Spaniel puppies and a collection of Smurf items.

He enjoyed trips to Colorado, Hawaii, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, and the beaches of Mexico.

Earl is survived by his wife Carmel of Clarion; sisters, Jeanne (Gale) Hodson, Kathy (Tony) Hogle, and Elaine Kolb and friend Scott Smith; sister-in-law Carol Johnson; brothers, Dave Hammen, Rick (Sue) Hammen, Ed (Mary) Hammen; nieces and nephews, Alan and Chris Ann, Brenda and Dan, Renae and Rob, Nicole and Ben, Shaun and Laura, Eric and Nikki, Kelly and Adam, Katie and Brent, Matt, Sami, Meghan and Jer, Kelsey, Kenzie, Vanessa; sister-in-laws, Jennifer (Bruce) Krietlow, Candy (John) Sheehan, Jackie (Merlin) Loux, and Judy (Kelly) Thomas; brother-in-law Larry Denger; nieces and nephews, Todd and Gloria, Becky and Aaron, Scott and Kim, Joe and Jen, Nic, Matt and Missy and many great nieces and nephews.

Earls is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tim Hammen (April 30, 2017); brother-in-law, Vance Kolb; father-in-law, Faye Denger; niece, Amanda Sheehan, and great nephew, Will Lewis.
