Edna (Eekhoff) Peterson, 88, of Kanawha and formerly of Corwith, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Kanawha Community Home.

Graveside services for Edna Peterson will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Corwith Cemetery, with Pastor Brian Hofman officiating. Following the graveside service lunch will be served at the Corwith Community Center, 110 Wayne Street in Corwith.

Emma Edna Eekhoff was born April 1, 1930 on a farm south east of Britt to Edward and Marie (Eenhuis) Eekhoff.  When a small child, she, with her parents, moved to a farm southwest of Kanawha where she spent her childhood days along with her parents and eight sisters.  She attended country school at Magor No. 7.  After that she graduated from the Kanawha High School in 1948.  After graduation she was employed by the Norway Rural Telephone Company.

Edna was united in marriage to Norman Peterson on May 5, 1950 at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Parsonage.  She lived on a farm near Meservey for three years.  Norman entered the service in 1953 and they lived in Missouri and Colorado while he was in the service.  Upon returning home, they moved to a farm south of Corwith where they worked side by side on the farm.

They were blessed with a son Todd in 1963 and he was the pride and joy of their life.  Edna was employed by the Corwith Wesley School District for 16 years.  She started out as a sub and became the head cook.  She took great pride in cooking good home-cooked meals for the students.  She retired in 1998 but still continued to help them out when she could.

In 1990, Edna and Norman moved into Corwith, retiring from faming.  Norman passed away in 1998.

Edna loved to cook with her granddaughters Sydney, Emma and Katie.  She liked crossword puzzles, embroidery work, making quilts and baking.  These all came to a halt when she was stricken with macular degeneration of the eyes.  She especially liked the books on tape and took full advantage of them.  In 2011, Edna entered the Kanawha Community Home due to poor health.

Edna was a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church.  Her family treasurers a book Edna has written “Recipes and Memories” of when she was growing up on the farm.  The book was put together by her niece Ronda and husband Danny Leerar, with much appreciation.

Edna is survived by her beloved son, Todd, dear daughter-in-law Laura of Mazomanie, Wisconsin; precious granddaughters, Sydney, Emma and Katie; five sisters: Ella Josten of Ventura, Esther (Ray) Helps of Garner, Ida Eekhoff of Kanawha, Marie Bunk of Renwick, Lois (Doug) Ward of Cedar Rapids; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Norman in 1998; twin sisters Kathy and Sally Jo in infancy; sisters Viola Eliason, Mildred Engh, and Janet Baack; brothers-in-law Donald Eliason, Dorance Baack, Donald Engh, Calvin Josten, and Chris Bunk.

Memorials may be made to the Kanawha Community Home and the Iowa Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.
