Obituary


Elsie Eliason, 80, of Kanawha, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2004, at her home in Kanawha.

Elsie, the daughter of Henry and Effie "Elsie" (Blank) Betten was born August 31, 1923, on the family farm in rural Britt.  She received her education in the local country schools.  She then was employed by several area families to help care for their families.

On August 2, 1945, Elsie was united in marriage with Ernest Eliason at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church.  The couple lived and farmed near Kanawha for a time, later moving to a farm in the Corwith area where they resided until the time of Ernest's death in 1975.  Elsie moved to a home in Kanawha in 1976, where she has since resided.

Following her move to Kanawha, Elsie was employed in the Hot Lunch Program at the Kanawha Community School.  In recent years, she has enjoyed volunteering at the Kanawha Community Home and delivering Congregate Meals.  Elsie had various hobbies including quilting and flower gardening.

She was a member of the Kanahwa Christian Reformed Church where she served on various committees.  She particularly enjoyed serving on the flower committee and caring for the plants at church.

Elsie is survived by two daughters: Elaine Brouwer of Seattle, Washington and Erma and her husband, Tom Parsons of Burt, Iowa; one son Eugene Eliason of Kanawha; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister Lela Freesemann of Britt; one brother Cornelius Betten and his wife, JoAnn, of New Hampton; one sister-in-law Mavis Betten of Kanawha; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ernest, one granddaughter, Tabitha Parsons and one brother, John Betten.
