Obituary


Esther L. Pohlman, 92, of Clarion passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center.

Mass of Christian Burial for Esther Pohlman will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church, 608 2nd Avenue North East in Clarion, with Father Jerry Blake officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Esther L. Rodriguez Pohlman was born August 10, 1925 to Ysidoro and Louisa Rodriguez in Clarion, Iowa. Esther was united in marriage to Darwin “Dode” Pohlman on August 9, 1947 and made their home in Clarion.

Esther was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was most happy to have her grandchildren with her, telling them stories of her childhood, helping with their homework and always making sure they got Grandma’s fresh tortillas. She loved to watch old movies, read, bake and lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She enjoyed having weekly coffee gatherings with friends and neighbors, the house was always filled with laughter.

Esther worked 23 years in the cafeteria at Clarion-Goldfield High School. She was always helping others, taking care of her mother Luisa and sister Nellie until their deaths.

Esther was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and VFW Women’s Auxiliary, Clarion, Iowa.

Esther is survived by her children Frances Tyndall of Wallis, Texas, Becky (Tom) Barker of Clarion, and Myron (Shelley) Pohlman of Clarion; grandchildren Rhonda (Steven) Ray, Lance (Annette) Mozingo, Tiffon (Clarence) Willey, and Tori (Chad) Jergenson; great-grandchildren Mason, Paige, Kamren, Trenton, Skyla, Nicholas, Donald, Matthew and Mallory; sister Celia (Alan) Pond; brothers Jess (Dee) Rodriguez, Frank Rodriguez, and Manual Rodriguez; and many nieces and nephews.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dode, sisters Frances Rodriguez, Nellie Franke, and Adella Rocha, brothers Pete Rodriguez, Alfonzo Rodriguez, and Tony Rodriguez, grandson Zachary Mozingo, great-granddaughter Myranda Jergenson, and son-in-law Joseph Tyndall.
