Obituary


Gladys ‘Jeanie’ Olson, 75, of Clarion passed away Monday, June 25, 2018 at Bethany Life in Story City.

Memorial services for Jeanie Olson will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion with Pastor Grant Woodley officiating.

A memorial visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Saturday.

Gladys Jean, daughter of Morris Jr. and Lola (Summers) Sorenson, was born on January 11, 1943 in Fort Dodge. Jeanie attended several different schools but never graduated. She was very proud of getting her GED as an adult.

Jeanie was united in marriage to Ronald Jergenson on April 12, 1959 in Humboldt. To this union, four children were born. The couple later divorced.

Jeanie was united in marriage to Philip Olson on July 27, 1970 in Vermillon, South Dakota. To this union, one child was born.

In Jeanie’s younger years, she enjoyed knitting, going fishing with her sister and going to BINGO with her mother. She and Phil also enjoyed golfing and spent many hours on the golf course. She also loved reading, working crossword puzzles, but especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and taking them for ice cream at the Dair-Y in Goldfield.

Jeanie is survived by her 5 children Steven (Leanna) Jergenson of Clear Lake, Jeff (Rose) Jergenson of Britt, Wendy (Leland) Conley of Webster City, Lanette (Wayne) Watts of Clarion, and Linda (Steve) Schmitt of Snohomish, Washington; nine grandchildren Amanda (Robert) Johns, Tim Jergenson, Angela (Jon) Luiken, Ashley (Brian) Aust, Olivia (Nathan) Huntley, Alayna Watts, Owen Watts, Carter Schmitt, and Colin Schmitt; four great-grandchildren; brother Norman “Bud” Sorenson, sister Melody (Ken) Wagner; brothers-in-law Paul Olson and Dick Jergenson; sisters-in-law Jan (Roger) Severson and Jannel (Russ) Stark; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by parents; husband Phil Olson; sisters Norma Jergenson and Janet Thorn; and grandson Eric Watts.
