Obituary


Irene Vander Ploeg, 90, of Kanawha passed away Friday, June 13, 2003, at Westview Care Center in Britt.

Irene Vander Ploeg, the daughter of Albert and Jennie (Eekhoff) Vander Ploeg, was born July 29, 1912, near Kanawha, Iowa.  Irene was educated in the Kanawha schools.  She took care of her mother for many years and then worked for eight years at the Kanawha Nursing Home.

Irene was a lifetime member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church.  She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, was a member of a sextet, and also a member of the Ladies' Aid Society.

Irene enjoyed sewing and many other crafts.  She took pleasure in gardening and gave many floral bouquet she had arranged to her church for services.

In 1996, Irene was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and had been a resident of Westview Care Center since 1998.

Irene is survived by two sisters: Delia Delger and Ann Blank and her husband, Raymond, all of Kanawha, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Sam and Herman, and three sisters: Trena Cooper, Gretchen Cooper, and Esther Vander Ploeg.
