Obituary


James “JP” Peterson, 66, of Britt passed away Monday, August 24, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Memorial Mass for Jim Peterson will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 3rd Street South East in Britt with Father Jim Dubert officiating.  Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.  The Britt Ceremonial Honor Guard will provide military rites.

Visitation for Jim Peterson will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of the service on Friday, August 28, 2015 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 139 3rd Street South East in Britt.

James “JP” Wayne Peterson was born to Linsworth “LL” and Mabel (Omvig) Peterson on September 10, 1948.   Jim was raised in Britt and graduated from Britt High School in 1966. Jim attended Mankato State College until 1969 when he entered the United States Army, serving in Vietnam from 1970-1971 as Military Police.

Jim was united in marriage to Nancy Trca on August 24, 1972 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Britt.  The couple made their home in Britt.

Jim worked at Marting Manufacturing of Iowa for over 40 years, with 20 of those as General Manager.  He retired in 2010.

Jim was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where he served as a lector, on parish council and delivered communion to the homebound.

Jim has enjoyed 35+ years on the West Hancock High School football field serving on the Chain Gang.  Jim was a Rotarian and also served on the School Board, High School Disciplinary Board, and Country Club.  Jim was an avid golfer, enjoyed reading and was a fan of Iowa Hawkeye sports.

Jim was generous with his time and family.  He was proud of each one of his children and adored his granddaughter, Landyn.

Jim is survived by wife, Nancy of Britt; children Andrea (Bruce) Schierwagen of Wellington, Colorado, Amy (Trennis) Jones and 19 month old daughter Landyn, of Austin, Texas and Jeff Peterson of Minneapolis; sister Janice (Don) LeMay of Vista, California and their family; mother-in-law Mary Trca of Britt; along with other family members and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
