Obituary


John F. Hobscheidt, 86, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2001, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

John, the son of John and Violet (Sherwood) Hobscheidt, was born March 7, 1915 in Murray, Nebraska.  He grew up in the Murray area where he received his formal education.

John was united in marriage with Mary Katherine Long on May 18, 1938, at Plattsmouth, Nebraska.  The couple farmed in Nebraska until moving to a farm near Corwith in 1942.

John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corwith, where he has served as a trustee.  He was a past 4-H leader, enjoyed traveling, fishing, playing pool, cards, and shuffleboard.  He also enjoyed farming and caring for flowers.

John is survived by his daughter, Judith Ann Hobscheidt of Palm Springs, California; his son, John Hobscheidt and his wife, Mary of Corwith; three grandchildren: Matt Hobscheidt, Amy Main and her husband, Ron and their daughter, Carly, and Ann Hinders and her husband, Wade; one brother, Frank Hobscheidt and his wife, Dorothy of Nehawka,  Nebraska; one sister, Margaret Nord of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and one sister-in-law, Katherine Hobscheidt, of Murray, Nebraska, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Katherine, and three brothers: Jack, George, and Henry.
