Obituary


Joyce E. Sandmaier, 71, of Clarion passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Clarion.

Graveside services for Joyce Sandmaier will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation for Joyce Sandmaier will be held from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion.

Joyce Elva Sandmaier, the daughter of Jean (Cressey) and Joseph Sandmaier, was born July 4, 1945 in Clarion, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Clarion, graduating from Clarion High School in 1963. Joyce continued her education at Eagle Grove Junior College and received her Bachelor’s Degree from University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls in 1967.

Joyce worked several years at the Wright County Auditor’s office. At the time of retirement she was a Deputy Auditor.

Joyce was a member of the Peace Corps. She trained in Louisiana before her assignment to Mogadishu, Somalia where she taught English to the children. She liked to travel when possible and had fond memories of her trip to Egypt.

Joyce enjoyed times with friends going to movies, musicals, and going out to eat. Joyce liked collecting Coca Cola memorabilia and attended many annual Coca Cola conventions with her mother.

Joyce is survived by her siblings, Bill (Joan) Sandmaier of Georgia, Bob (Kathie) Sandmaier of Michigan, Jerry Sandmaier of Florida, and Mary Jo (Randy) Hutchings of Illinois. She also leaves 14 nephews and nieces, 22 great nephews and nieces, and several great great nephews and nieces.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Jean and Joe Sandmaier; sister Shirley Bauer; brother in law Russ Bauer; great aunt Jennie Cressey Holter and nephew Steven Sandmaier.
