Obituary


Marcus Frederick Hoelscher, the son of Gustav Frederick and Anna (Joens) Hoelscher, was born December 4, 1913 on a farm near Hubbard.  He graduated from Hubbard High School and went on to attend Iowa State University where he graduated with a degree in Horticulture.

In 1940, he was united in marriage to Rocel Dubberke, also from Hubbard.  The first two years of their marriage were spent in Yankton, South Dakota where Marcus worked for Gurney Seed and Nursery.  He then returned to farming, first in Hubbard and then to Iowa Falls in 1944.  His first son, Wayne, was born in 1945, and his second son, Neil, 1949.  He retired from farming in 1970, and moved to Iowa Falls where he spent the next twenty-two years as a real estate agent.  Rocel passed away in 1987, after forty-seven years of marriage to Marcus.  In June of 1992, he married Louise Smith at the Methodist Church in Kanawha.  They lived in both Kanawha and Rochester, Minnesota during their marriage.

Marcus suffered a severe heart attack Monday, April 8, and passed away Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.  Marcus had reached the age of eighty-eight years and four months.

Marcus is survived by his wife, Louise; a sister, Catharina Hoelscher, of Fort Dodge; two sons, Wayne Hoelscher and his wife, Cynthia of Plymouth, Minnesota and Neil Hoelscher and his wife, Lois of Perry.  Also surviving are four grandsons: Aaron and his wife, Erin, Matthew, Kip, and Jeff; a granddaughter Louise and her husband, Dale; step-granddaughter, Heather; step-grandson, Michael; great-grandsons: Nicholas and Troy, and step-great granddaughter Sabrina.

Marus was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Rocel, and sister Laura Myers.
