Marilyn Rae Kumsher, the youngest of seven siblings, was born January 23, 1961 to Michael and Agnes (Ptacek) Kumsher in Britt.

Marilyn attended special education classes in the former Britt municipal building, before attending school at the Happy ARC school in Garner.

Marilyn made Britt her home until moving to Opportunity Village in 2007. Four years ago, she moved to a group home as part of One Vision (formerly Opportunity Village) in Garner.

Marilyn worked at the bakery and Longhorn Café in Garner, and later at various jobs at the center at Opportunity Village.
