Obituary


Maynard Holck, 71, of Britt, Iowa passed away Sunday, April 30, 2000 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa following a short battle with cancer.

Maynard, the son of Adolph and Rose (Dallman) Holck, was born January 9, 1929 in Britt, Iowa.  He attended country school in the Britt area and graduated from Britt High School in 1945.  Following graduation from high school Maynard farmed with his father northwest of Britt.

Maynard served with the United State Army during the Korean Conflict.  Following his discharge from the Army, Maynard returned to farming.

Maynard was united in marriage with Shirley (Nall) Veldhouse on August 7, 1963 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple made their home near Britt.  Maynard worked part-time at Sankey Oil and Marting Manufacturing in Britt.

Maynard was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt, where he served numerous times on the church council.  He was also a member of the Britt VFW and American Legion Posts.  Maynard enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, and watching sports.  He also enjoyed going for Sunday rides.

Maynard is survived by his wife Shirley of Britt; one daughter Mona Holck of Britt; two sons Curtis Holck and his wife, Sondra of Mason City and Mark Holck and his wife, Jodi of Clear Lake and four step-sons: Gene Veldhouse and his wife,  Mary of Boise, Idaho, Richard Veldhouse of San Ramon, California, Dan Veldhouse and his wife, Deb of Britt and Doug Veldhouse of St. Paul, Minnesora; ten grandchildren Nick, China, Marquita, Jennie, Katie, Natalie, Nicky, Jaime, Jessica, and Cody; one sister Verna Alke and her husband, George of Britt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, one brother, and one grandson.
