Obituary


Norma M. Hamilton, 93, of Latimer, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Franklin Country View in Hampton.

Funeral services for Norma Hamilton will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 204 East South Street in Latimer, with Pastor Joseph Dunnwald officiating. Burial will take place at Alexander Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday, July, 18, 2018 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 204 East South Street in Latimer and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Norma Mae, only child of Henry and Minnie (Auchampach) Johnson, was born on the family farm in rural Latimer on March 13, 1925. Norma attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from high school in Latimer. After high school, Norma received her teaching degree from Waldorf and later Drake University. She taught school for 35 years – teaching in Hampton, Geneva, Chapin, and Sheffield.

On August 18, 1946, Norma was united in marriage to Dean Hamilton on the family farm. In 1962, the family moved to the family farm and later moved into town in 1974.

Norma enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and working on her postage stamp collection. Norma loved playing music and visiting at local care centers and at over 60’s groups with the Kitchen Klatter Band. Norma’s family was most important to her, always making an effort to get her family together.

Norma is survived by her four children: sons, Dennis of Latimer, Darwin (Laura) of Iowa Falls, Delbert (Marilyn) of Latimer, and daughter Corinne (Tom) Strumpel of West Liberty; 11 grandchildren: Tim (Dawn), Jeff, Ryan, Clint (Justina), John (Lani), Wyatt (Katie), Matt (Jodi), Rod (Amber), and Debra Hamilton, Aaron Strumpel, and Emily (Nate) Worden; 19 great-grandchildren and two on the way; 8 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Barbe Powers and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, brothers-in-law and wives: Robert (Nell), C.J., Howard (Lucille), and Stanley; sisters-in-law and husbands: Pat (Melvin) Abbas, and Bonnie (Dallas) Dohlman, also a great-grandson.
