Obituary


Raymond E. Eekhoff, 77, of Kanawha, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 9, 2003, while on a fishing trip in Minnesota.

Funeral services for Ray Eekhoff will be held Thursday, June 12 at 10:20 AM at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha with Pastor Chuck Walton officiating. Burial will be in Wright Christian Reformed Church cemetery near Kanawha. 

Friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 5:00 - 8:00 at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home in Kanawha and one hour prior to services at the church. 

Ray, the son of Henry and Louisa (Riekends) Eekhoff, was born November 15, 1925, in Kanawha, Iowa.  He attended country school and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1943.

On September 16, 1947, Ray was united in marriage with Dorothy Hurlburt at the Wright Christian Reformed Church near Kanahwa.  The couple farmed near Kanawha for 50 years and moved into Kanawha in 1998.

Ray enjoyed telling stories to his grandchildren, golfing, fishing and spending the winters in Arizona.  He also enjoyed attending church and singing.

Ray is survived by his wife Dorothy, sons and daughters-in-law: Ron and Mary Ellen Eekhoff of Renwick, Jim and Sylvia Eekhoff of Hull, Tom Eekhoff of Kanawha; daughters: Deb Jahncke of Humboldt, and Joanne Eekhoff of Albuquerque, New Mexico; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister Ada Assink of Kanawha; brothers and sisters-in-law: Annette Eekhoff of Kanawha, Harold and Ordie Eekhoff of Wellsburg, George and Helen Eekhoff, Viola Eekhoff, Paul and Jennie Eekhoff all of Kanawha, and Harlan and Deloris Eekhoff of Britt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one of Ray's special granddaughters, Shauna Eekhoff, two brothers: Peter Boyd Eekhoff and John Eekhoff; and brother-in-law Henry Assink.
