Obituary


Richard Gene Harms, age 68, of Clarion, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2004, at Wright Medical Center in Clarion, Iowa.

Services will be held at 10:30AM Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at the Clarion Church of Christ, 420 N Main, in Clarion with Pastor Tim Platt officiating. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Rowan.

Visitation will be Monday, September 13, 2004 from 4:00 until 8:00PM at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street in Clarion, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. 

Richard Gene Harms son of John and Luella (Meinders) Harms was born on January 15, 1936 in Iowa City. He was baptized in the Methodist Church in Belmond. Richard attended school in Kanawha and was raised in the area.

Richard started farming at an early age, helping his father and also taking care of him. Richard worked as a farm hand, and in later years as a painter at Erickson Manufacturing.

Richard spent many hours watching James Bond and John Wayne movies. He loved a good game of cards or checkers, listening to country music and riding around town. Richard enjoyed life in general, but his adopted family gave him the most enjoyment in life.

Richard is survived by his brothers, Derald Harms of Clarion and Stenus Harms of Humboldt; long time companion Tena Finn of Clarion; adopted children, Myrna Koenen and her husband Larry of Bentonville, AR, Marlyn Pannof and his wife Laraine of Council Bluffs, Donna Hoffmann and her husband Dave of Renwick, Gary Finn and his wife Kim of Des Moines, Mike Finn and his wife Cindy of Des Moines; 12 adopted grandchildren and 5 adopted great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister.
