Obituary


Richard Nicholas Freeman (Rick), 68, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation Center in Clarion, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Ewing Funeral Home, 1801 Central Avenue East in Clarion, with a memorial service following at 6:00 PM.

Rick was born on May 12, 1948 in Manchester, Minnesota to Kenneth and Naomi (Clarkson) Freeman. He attended high school in Goldfield, Iowa, and served in the U.S. Navy. He married Vicki Strong in June of 1973 at the First United Methodist Church in Clarion. He worked as a Ready-Mix plant manager for over 30 years.

He was a dedicated family man and loving husband. He was a very social, active man who enjoyed cooking for family and friends, as well as being an avid follower of Clarion Cowboy wrestling. One of his very favorite pastimes was attending Iowa State football games and doing the grilling for their tailgating friends. His family will remember him for his great sense of humor and huge heart.

Rick is survived by his wife of 43 years, Vicki; sons Corey (Theresa) Freeman of Sheldon, and William Freeman of St. Louis, Missouri; daughter Angie (Mike) McLaughlin of Cherokee; grandchildren Tyler and Nicole McLaughlin and Dustin and Cassie Freeman; sister Judy Chapman of Clarion; brothers William (Rose) Freeman of Las Vegas, Nevada and John (Colleen) Freeman of Eagle Grove; sister-in-law Kittie Mann of Pleasanton, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats D.B. and Goldie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patty Freeman, brothers Bob Freeman, Ronnie Freeman, Larry Freeman, Jerry Freeman, and brothers-in-law Ronnie Chapman and Clayson Mann.
