Obituary


William R. “Bill” Vavrik, 64, of Britt, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services for Bill Vavrik will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Christian Reformed Church, 569 Main Avenue North, in Britt with Pastor Joel DeBoer officiating.  Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday. 

William “Bill” was born April 3, 1949 in Britt, Iowa to Robert Vavrik, Sr. and Marie (Bragg) Vavrik.  Bill attended Britt schools, graduating from Britt High School in 1967.   Bill worked as a carpenter in his younger days, learning the trade from his dad.  Bill had many different jobs throughout his younger years, with the most recent being at Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa.

Bill married Bonnie Pletcher on April 21, 1978 at the United Methodist church in Britt.  They spent their entire married life in Britt.

Bill was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor.  He enjoyed watching westerns and spending time with his family and friends.  He will be dearly missed by all.

Bill is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Britt; daughter Kristie (Rodney) Crowder of Britt and their children: Christopher Ramos of Camp Pendleton, California, Hailey Crowder of Britt, Joshua Crowder of Mason City, and Jacob Crowder of Mason City; sister, Kathy (John) Francis of Britt; two brothers: Tom (Diane) Vavrik of Texas and Daniel Vavrik of Minnesota; mother-in-law, Vivian Pletcher; sisters and brothers-in-law: Linda Hildman of Britt, John Pletcher (Darlene Weber) of Britt, Connie Pletcher of Britt, Ron (Lilia) Pletcher of San Jose, California; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Vavrik, Jr.; father-in-law, Donald Pletcher; sister-in-law, Diane Eisenman.
