Obituary


James Hampe, 87, of Britt passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. Memorial services for Jim Hampe will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 15, 2019 at the Britt United Methodist Church, 707 4th Street South West in Britt with Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

The son of Carl and Laura (Olsen) Hampe, Jim was born August 26, 1931 in Britt, Iowa. He grew up in Britt and graduated from Britt High School in 1950. Following graduation, Jim began farming, raising hogs, dairy cows, cattle and row crops.

Jim was united in marriage to Della Mae Rasmuson on June 22, 1951 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. To this union, children Di Ann and Daniel were born. The couple made their home on the Hampe farm near Britt before moving to Eagle Lake in 1959, where they continued to make their home until moving to the Summit House in Britt in October of 2016.

Jim was always busy, enjoyed traveling and going on his yearly fishing trip to Canada. Family vacations to Colorado. Jim and Della wintered in Texas for more than 30 years and they enjoyed a memorable six week trip to Alaska. He also enjoyed bowling, stock car racing, snowmobiling and was a member of the Snow-Bos which met regularly in his barn. He enjoyed all sports and even helped coach the Britt ladies softball team that Della played on.

He attended the United Methodist Church in Britt and was a member of the Britt Jaycees. Jim enjoyed retirement working at Park’s Marina in Okoboji for several summers and Swenson Hardware one day a week helping on truck day, so he never fully retired.

Jim is survived by his daughter Di Ann (Greg) Reindl of Reedsville, Wisconsin and son Daniel (Jackie) Hampe of Britt; grandchildren Matthew Reindl of River Falls, Wisconsin, April (Greg) Schneider of Mishicot, Wisconsin, Ryan (special friend Amy Palmer) Hampe of Britt and Christopher (Jennifer) Hampe of Madrid, Iowa; great-grandchildren Vanessa Cluchey, Macy Schneider and Leon, Coraline and Kinsley Hampe; brother-in-law Dean Rasmuson of Sturgis, South Dakota and sister-in-law Dorothy (Jerry) Ingvall of Spirit Lake, Iowa; special friends Orville and Bethine Nelson and Lawrence and Shirley Smidt; along with numerous other family members and friends.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, wife of 66 years Della, brothers Donald and Elmer and sisters Anna Marie Parks and Elsie Leerar.
