Obituary


Agnes Benson Thompson, 86, passed away Monday, December 4, 1995 at the Kanawha Community Nursing Home.

Agnes, the daughter of Anton and Anna (Johnston) Benson, was born on May 25, 1909 near Kanawha, Iowa.  She attended the rural schools in that area.  She was united in marriage with Luverne Thompson on January 5, 1926 at Yorkville, Illinois where they lived until they moved back to Kanawha to begin farming.  In 1940 they moved to a farm near Corwith and then to Blue River, Wisconsin in 1964.  They retired in 1970 and moved back to Kanawha.  She became a resident at the Kanawha Community Home in March of 1987.

She was a lifelong member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church and an active member of the Kanawha Lutheran Women.  She was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed helping with the farm work and tending her flowers.  She was known as an excellent cook and a loving baby-sitter for all her grandchildren.

Agnes is survived by one daughter, Dolores and her husband, Kenneth of Cowith and one son-in-law, Tiny Merriam and his wife Marlene of Corwith.  11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.  Two sisters: Helga Iverson of Tacoma, Washington, and Alice Hattersley of Bristol, Illinois, one brother, Milford Benson of Sioux City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband Luverne in 1989.  A daughter, Virginia in 1972, her parents and six brothers.
