Aileen was born on June 23, 1933 to Burt and Henrietta (Pals) Kalkwarf. Aileen
grew up on a farm East of Belmond, Iowa. She graduated from Belmond High School
in 1951.
Aileen met Alvin Lee Arthur at the roller rink at Lake Cornelia and they married
on May 25, 1952. To this union, they were blessed with three daughters: Christy,
Cathy, and Carrie.
Aileen and Alvin were proud to have built two homes where they could raise their
family. Aileen was a proud homemaker and talented seamstress- personally making
many of the family's clothes. They were passionate gardeners and canned all
types of vegetables.
Aileen was hard-working and worked full-time in the assessors, recorders, and
treasurers offices in the Clarion Courthouse. You may have found her in the
basement working on microfiche. Here she made many long lasting friends.
Aileen and Al were entrepreneurial. They flipped homes and renovated a cabin on
a lake in Northern Minnesota. They spent as much time as possible up North,
fishing, relaxing, and spending time with family and friends.
Aileen had many hobbies. She loved watching her grandkids play in local sports
and she was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. One of her most fond pastimes was singing
in the Choralaires choir group where she was a member for nearly 30 years. She
was also a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church and held office as a
Jaycee-ette.
In retirement she had multiple coffee and bridge groups and enjoyed long walks
around the town.
Shopping, popcorn, and family were the joys of her life. Her children and
grandchildren were a treasure to her. Generosity of heart and humor were
qualities she embodied and admired in others.
Aileen is preceded in death by her husband Alvin in 2011; Aileen's parents
Henrietta and Burt Kalkwarf; sibling Joan Kalkwarf Harty. She is survived by her
children Christy (Jeff) Foreman of Maricopa, Arizona, Cathy (Mark) Cramer of
Clarion, Iowa, Carrie (Dave) Arthur Daniel of Wenatchee, Washington;
