Obituary


Alan R. Anderson, 58, of Mason City, formerly of Alexander and Osage passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Memorial services for Alan Anderson will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond with Pastor Ken Draper officiating.

Prior to the service, burial for Alan Anderson will take place at 10:00 AM at the Alexander Cemetery, rural Alexander.

Memorial visitation for Alan Anderson will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond.

Alan Richard Anderson was born February 21, 1960 to Henry and Shirley (Merritt) Anderson in Decorah, Iowa. Alan was raised and educated in Osage, graduating from Osage High School. He later attended NIACC in Mason City.

Alan was united in marriage to Jacqueline (Draper) Kragel on August 28, 1993. The couple made their home in Alexander, along with Jacki’s daughter, Jessi. They were later blessed with son, Jacob. Jacki passed away March 4, 2012.

Alan worked for Fieldstone Cabinetry in Northwood for a number of years, as well as in the plumbing industry and as a forklift operator while living in Missouri.

Alan was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in his mid-20’s, a disease that eventually forced him to quit working. Despite his illness, Alan was always smiling and never complained.

Alan was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trips to the casino with Jacki. He loved spending time watching Star Wars or Walker: Texas Ranger with Jacob.

Alan was a member of First Reformed Church in Alexander.

Alan is survived by his children Terry, Adam, Christopher, Caitlin, Jessi (Patrick) Olmstead and their children Jackson, Kennedy and Carter of Webster City, and Jacob Anderson of Mason City; mother Shirley Anderson of Osage; siblings Mark (Sue) Anderson of Tucson, Arizona, John (Rokki) Anderson of Brookfield, Illinois and Amy (Jay) Hickman of Hampton; parents-in-law Gene and Judy Draper of Clear Lake; brothers-in-law Ken (Jodi) Draper of Mason City and Mike (Julie) Draper of Mason City; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Alan was preceded in death by his father Henry Anderson; his brother Kim Anderson and wife Jacki Anderson.
