Obituary


Albertus “Bert” Kruger, 88, of Britt passed away to his heavenly home to be with our Lord on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the Algona Manor Care Center.

Funeral services for Bert Kruger will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Woden Christian Reformed Church, 205 290th Street rural Woden with Mr. Stan Limberg officiating.  Burial will be at 1:30 PM at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center Street West in Britt and will continue one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Monday.

Bert, the son of George A. and Henrietta (Stubbe) Kruger, was born on the family farm near George, Iowa. He grew up milking cows, farming with horses, and completing country school through the 8th grade. He lost his mother at age eleven and was raised by older siblings and later his step mother, Sena (Luppen) Veers, of Kanawha.

He was drafted in the US Army in the 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War, 1951-1953. He served on the front line on the 38th parallel for eleven months to the rank of corporal. He met Grace Van Hoorn before leaving for Korea. They were married June 10, 1954 at Woden Christian Reformed Church. They were married for 63 years. They spent their lives farming together in rural Wesley. Bert was a hard worker, active in the church, and taught his children many life skills.

Bert is survived by his five children Denise (Ed) Aldeman of Iowa City, Iowa and their three sons: Mark (Abigail) of College Station, Texas, Michael (Carrie) of Davenport, Iowa, and David of Iowa City Iowa, Dennis (Deb) of Wesley and their children: Dawn (John) Stoakes of Dysart, Iowa, Darrin (Allison) of Wesley, Iowa, Darcy of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Daniel (Jaime) of Wesley, Iowa, Deloris (Jay) McCracken of Des Moines, Iowa and their sons: Kyle (Rebekah) of Lakeville, Minnesota, Kory (Jessica) of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Kody (Katie) of Waterloo, Iowa, Darla (Gary) Peters of Wesley, Iowa and their sons: Alex, Taylor (Courtney) and Tony all of Wesley, Iowa, and Doreen (DeWayne) Breen of Urbandale, Iowa and their sons: Ben (Shari) of West Des Moines, Iowa and Nathan (Stephanie) of Ankeny, Iowa; eight great-grandchildren; along with many nephews, nieces, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and stepmother, brother John, half-sister Kathryn, and sister Viola Kellen.

We deeply appreciate your kindness and prayers as Bert’s health became a struggle.
