Obituary
Alice Caroline Holm, 103, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 1990 at the Kanawha Community Nursing Home in Kanawha, Iowa.
Alice, the daughter of Adolph and Matila (Johnson) Espe, was born January 31, 1887 on a farm in Wright County. After finishing high school, she taught country school for many years.
On September 5, 1906 she was united in marriage with Harold Holm at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kanawha. The couple farmed in Wright County for 24 years and moved into Duncombe in 1930. Alice worked in the school lunch program as a cook for many years. She moved to Sunset Manor in Kanawha in 1973 and became a resident of the Kanawha Community Nursing Home in 1977. Alice was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kanawha where she taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir. She held many offices in Ladies Aide. She enjoyed embroidering, crocheting and making quilts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold who passed away in 1943; her parents; three daughters; one son; 10 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Aljean Howlett and husband, Robert of Kanawha; three sons: Luther of Duncombe; Aarond and wife, Norma of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Harold and wife, Rose of Fort Dodge; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 12 great- great grandchildren; two sons-in-law: Hershel Morris of Kanawha and Gunnar Benson of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter-in-law, Irene Doud of Kearney, Nebraska; a sister, Hazel Snetzler of Cedar Falls.
