Obituary

Alice Osborne, age 95, of Dows passed away Thursday July 23, 2015 at her home.

Memorial graveside services for Alice Osborne will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 8, 2015 in the Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Pastor Nicole Woodley will officiate. A time of fellowship for family and friends will follow immediately at First Lutheran Church basement in Dows.

Alice Corrine Osborne was born to Bennett and Gena Hanson on March 10, 1920, the third oldest of eight children, on a farm east of Dows, Iowa. She graduated from Dows High School. Alice was united in marriage to Gerald Finn, a Navy seaman who was killed in World War II shortly after they were married. In 1946 she married Elmer (Topsy) Osborne, to which two children were born: Allen and Katheryn.

Alice was most of all a businesswoman, owning and operating the Green Door Café for approximately twenty years, and then co-managing the Dows Newspaper until retirement. Her favorite hobby was cooking – any and all times. No one ever left her house hungry. She was most generous with her time, taxiing friends, neighbors, relatives and even strangers to various activities and obligations. She also committed much of her time to many organizations in the community.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, her parents and six siblings. She is survived by her son, Allen (Colleen) Osborne of Dows, IA, and Katheryn (Ed) Young of Cherry Valley, CA, four grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She will be sorely missed.
