Alice Elizabeth Martin, 85, of Des Moines, formerly of Clarion, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services for Alice Martin will be held on Friday, February 11, 2005 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church, 201 3rd Ave NE, in Clarion. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion. Visitation for Alice Martin will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2005, from 6:00 – 8:00PM at the Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home, 602 North Main, in Clarion and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Alice E. (Hambleton) Martin was born on July 23, 1919 in Bloomfield, Iowa to Charles and Laura (Lockman) Hambleton. She lived on the family farm until the age of 18, graduated from Bloomfield High School and then moved to Woodward, Iowa. Alice worked at the Woodward State Hospital where she met her husband Burt Raymond McMorris. The couple was united in marriage on July 12, 1941 and moved to Portland, Oregon until the beginning of WW II. Alice and Burt moved to Des Moines where Burt enlisted in the Navy. In 1946, after the war, they moved to Clarion where Burt started Vogue Beauty Shop. Alice raised their 2 children, Scott and LeAnna, and she also joined Burt in the family business from 1964 until her retirement in 1991. Burt and Alice were very active in the Clarion business community. Burt passed away in 1981 and Alice married Leo Martin in July, 1982. She and Leo lived in Clarion until 2002 and then moved to Altoona to be closer to their families. The couple lived at Briar Cliff Assisted Living in Altoona. Alice was active at the United Methodist Church in Clarion, she was an active member of the Clarmond Country Club and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed her family above all other things. Anyone who met Alice thought she was fun-loving and spirited Alice is survived by her husband, Leo of Altoona; son, Scott McMorris and his fiancée Kathy Sparks of Pleasant Hill; daughter, LeAnna Martin and her husband Ron of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren, Angie O'Dell and her husband Joel of Pleasant Hill, Ryan Martin and his wife Tracy of Lamoni, Shannon Trapp and her husband Casey of Washta and Sean McMorris of San Gabriel, California; great-grandchildren, Carly and Samuel O'Dell of Pleasant Hill, Cameron Martin of Lamoni and Emma Trapp of Washta; step-daughter, Jean Cooper and her husband Wayne of Waukee; step-son, Darrell Martin; step-grandchildren, Cody Martin, Kim Cooper, Carly Martin and Ashli Copper; brother, Lee Hambleton of San Clemente, California; along with numerous extended family and friends. Alice was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Burt McMorris.
