Obituary


Alice Marie Thompson, 95, of Chester, Iowa was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.

Visitation will be held at 9:30am on Friday, July 3, 2015 at the United Lutheran Church in Chester, Iowa. The funeral service will follow at 10:30am, with Pastor Dan Christensen officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, Iowa. Ewing Funeral Home in Britt, Iowa is handling arrangements.

Alice Marie (Steinlicht) Thompson was born in Hancock County near Britt, Iowa on July 14, 1919, the second child of Henry August and Gertrude Anna (Ennen) Steinlicht. When Alice was two, the family moved to Belmond, Iowa for two years, and then to a farm west of Kanawha where Alice spent her childhood.

Alice received her early education in a one-room country school in Hancock County, Magor School #5. She attended Kanawha High School for 2 years, and then changed to Corwith High School where she graduated in 1937. Following graduation she worked at the Corwith Hustler, the local newspaper office, until her marriage to Dale Leon Thompson. They were married on April 7, 1940 in the Lutheran Church at Renwick, Iowa and moved to Britt where they owned and operated the Thompson Body Shop.

Alice & Dale lived in Britt for 15 years, and then moved to a farm one mile south of Chester, Iowa in 1955. Alice was active in farming, and worked at the Lime Springs Herald as well as LPC in LeRoy, MN for many years. She was active in the Lutheran church her whole life, and was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Chester for over 50 years. She began quilting when she was 67 years old and made many beautiful quilts over the next 25 years.

Her husband Dale died in 1985, and Alice continued to live alone on the farm until 2010 when she experienced health problems and moved to Boone, Iowa to be closer to her daughters. She passed away at the Eastern Star Home in Boone, Iowa.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband Dale Thompson, her parents, and a grandson Daniel Anderlik, sisters Ione Lesher and Shirley Holmes, and brothers Francis, Henry Junior and Robert Steinlicht; also Dale’s parents Alden and Carrie (Hunsley) Thompson, his sisters Vera Dietz, Mildred Long, and brothers Roland, Louis, and Donald Thompson.

She is survived by her three children, Pat (Bob) Anderlik, Dean Thompson, and Denise (Doug) Nebbe. She has 7 grandchildren: Sara (David) Kizzier, Tim (Melinda) Anderlik, Sheryl (Paul) Clark, Aimee (Ingo) Thompson-Logé, Joel (Leila) Thompson, Alexandra (Rod) Buttermore, and Zachary (Ellie) Johnson. She has 12 great grandchildren: Sam, Molly, Annie, and Mary Kieffer; Libby, Abby, and Maggie Anderlik; Hannah and Will Clark; Nathan, Sophia and Lily Thompson. She is also survived by her sister Beverly Everett, three sisters-in-law, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
