Aljean Lorraine (Holm) Howlett, 77, of Britt, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 7, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.

Aljean, the daughter of Harold and Alice (Espe) Holm, was born Aprill 22, 1927, in rural Kanawha.  When Aljean was a child, the family moved to Duncombe, Iowa where she attended school and graduated from Duncombe High School.  Following graduation, she was employed at Firestone in Fort Dodge.

On December 30, 1944, Aljean was united in marriage with Robert Howlett at Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe.  The couple made their home on the Howlett farm north of Kanawha.  While on the farm, Aljean also worked part time at the Norway Rural Telephone Company.  Aljean's greatest joy was her family.  She enjoyed spending time with people and taking trips.

In 1991 Bob and Aljean moved from the farm into Britt.  Aljean was always active in the community; she served on various boards and committees including the church board at the Kanawha United Methodist Church and was a member of the Kanawha and Britt church circles.  She was also a member of the Kanawha High School Music Mothers, Happy Hour Birthday Club, Hancock County Hospital Auxiliary, Hancock County Historical Society, and The Red Hat Society.

Aljean is survived by her children: Bob Howlett and his wife, Jeanne of Alexandria, Virginia, Becky Haxton and her husband, Roger of Britt, and Charles Howlett and his wife, Heidi of Geneva, Illinois; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by two brothers: Harold Holm and his wife, Rose of Fort Dodge and Aaron Holm and his wife, Norma of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Aljean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert in 1992; her son, Randy in 2000; and three sisters and two brothers.
