Allan Francis Doughan, son of Raymond and Marie (Yegge) Doughan, was born on June 9, 1929, on the family farm. He attended country school through the eighth grade before graduating from Corwith High School in 1947.
In April 1949, Allan married Frances Ptacek, and together they were blessed with eight children. They made their home on the family farm, where Allan first farmed alongside his father and later with his sons. Over the years, he and his family also operated a custom corn shelling business and later a trucking company.
The family farm was the heart of Allan's life. It was there that he instilled a strong work ethic in his children and was always willing to teach anyone how to drive a tractor or gather eggs. More than anything, Allan loved being with people. He never met a stranger and genuinely enjoyed visiting, sharing stories, and striking up conversations wherever he went. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family, and he especially cherished going dancing with Frances.
Allan was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was actively involved in the life of the parish. As a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, he lived his faith through quiet acts of kindness, humility, and service to others every day.
He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Frances Doughan of Britt, children Diane (Bill) Mattoon of Britt, Dwight Doughan of Britt, Duane (Lynda) Doughan of Britt, Dan (Lynn) Doughan of Britt, Deb (Dan) Veldhouse of Britt, Doug (Dawn) Doughan of Clear Lake and Darla (Randy) Yeakel of Kanawha; 41 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters-in-law Bonnie Doughan and Marcie Doughan along with many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Dean and siblings Donna, Eugene, Dale, Shirley Ann, Larry and Charlotte.
Memorials may be made to the West Hancock Scholarship Fund or Hospice of North Iowa.
