Allen Boyington, 91, of Belmond, passed away on Monday, August 9, 2021 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at United Church of Rowan, 811 Pesch Street in Rowan, with Pastor Nancy Hofmeister officiating. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Rowan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. Allen's family requests casual clothes be worn. Allen E. Boyington, the son of Thad and Jennie Boyington, was born on February 22, 1930 in Rowan. He attended and graduated from Rowan High School. Allen married Maribeth June Norris on October 15, 1950. They made their home in rural Dows, where they farmed until moving to Rowan. For the last three years, Allen has lived at the Belmond Community Apartments. Allen's love was farming, but that didn't stop him from attending most all of his children's sporting events. This Grandpa also loved to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their many activities when he could, and sat at a few parades catching candy and sharing with them. They knew he wanted the red licorice and they would make sure he always got some. The family vacations of camping and fishing at Leach Lake and Cooks Camp in Canada were some of the best times with family and friends. Weslaco, Texas was where Allen and Maribeth spent many winters at the Pine to Palm Resort. Allen played shuffleboard daily with many dear friends. He was able a few years ago to visit the park and catch up with a few friends and watch some shuffling. He has quite the trophy collection and even was the Texas State Shuffleboard Champ in 2004. One thing he was quite proud of was teaching most of the grandchildren to say the alphabet backwards, he could rattle that off in seconds. The last few years, Allen has enjoyed the afternoon car trips with his special friend, Darline. They would stop weekly at Dudley's for his favorite meal: breakfast, and also to the Crème de la Crème in Dows for coffee and conversation. If he needed some music, he enjoyed the Jams listening to Annie and Terry sing and play, loving their music. He also was promoted to farm manager (by his grandson-in-law, Randy) and spent many hours driving around the countryside checking on the crops, stopping and watching to make sure we were doing a good job. Once a farmer, always a farmer! Allen is survived by three of his children: Rebecca (Randy) Richards of Vail, Arizona, Thad (Nancy) Boyington of Hampton, Kimberly (Edward) Swanson of Goodell, and daughter-in-law Brenda Boyington of Williams; his 11 grandchildren: Stephanie (Nick) Reighard of Belmond, Chad (Darcy) Boyington of Klemme, Jenni (Bradly) Bex of Palo, Chase Richards of Tucson, Arizona, Halli Jo of Killeen, Texas, Kelli (Josh) Enabnit of Clear Lake, Ryan (Nicole) Boyington of Norwalk, Rachel (Mark) Wilcox of Kansas City, Missouri, Nicole (Jody) Lanstrum of Chugiak, Alaska, Jamie (Randy) McGrath of Clear Lake, and Matthew Swanson of Klemme; his 24 great-grandchildren: Ashlynn (significant other Fabian), Jenna, Whitney (Tony), Jose (Lindsay), Kameran, James, Stella, Jaxon, Brooks, Elle, Megan (Beau), Ashley, Hayden, Amelia, Cooper, Ronan, Simon, George, Kayleigh, Gunner, Laura, Payton, Emersyn, and Cohen; 14 great-great-grandchildren: Olivia, Aiden, Albani, Lexus, Ava, Jayce, Jaya, Kane, Brooklynn, Aubrie, Briana, Maddox, Adrian, Jasey, and one more on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Maribeth; son Craig; and daughters-in-law Susan Graham and Lynn Boyington.
