Allen H. Hansen, the son of Howard R. and Adela (Schmidt) Hansen, was born September 25, 1950, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Belmond High School, Class of 1968.

Following high school graduation, Al attended NIACC but soon returned home to take over the family farming operations after his dad suffered a heart attack.

Al joined the Army National Guard in 1969. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant and an M16 marksman in 1975 after six years of service.

On June 12, 1970, Al married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Schroder, in Belmond, Iowa. To this marriage was born two daughters: Anisa and Abbie.

All he wanted was a homecoming date in the fall of 1967, and he ended up with 52 years of marriage, two daughters, and four granddaughters. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved muscle cars, NASCAR, the Atlanta Braves, The Rolling Stones, a good game of golf, winter vacations in Marco Island, and a full-bodied whiskey.

Al hung up his boxing gloves on August 23, 2022, following an 18-month fight with stage IV cancer at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. For his family and friends, Al’s checkered flag came too soon. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughters, Anisa Hansen and Abbie (Tony) Hansen; granddaughters Kaylee, Keelin, Kelsey, and Hollin; and his sisters, Lavonne Hansen Burgard and Ruby (Ed) Osier.

In lieu of flowers and other customary remembrances, Al’s family suggests memorial donations be directed to William R. Bliss Cancer Center or Israel Family Hospice House and sent to the family’s attention at Ewing Funeral Home, P.O. Box 301, Belmond, Iowa 50421.
