Obituary


Allen Watson Struthers, age 54, of Clarion, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney Nebraska.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at the United Methodist Church in Clarion with Pastor Don Morrison officiating.

A gathering for family and friends will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Tuesday May 31, 2005 at the United Methodist Church; 201 3rd. Avenue NE in Clarion. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts may be made to the Allen Struthers Memorial fund.

Allen Watson Struthers, the son of Ralph and LaVonna (Hansen) Struthers was born September 12, 1950 on a farm West of Ottosen in Humboldt County. He was raised and educated in West Bend. He graduated from West Bend High School on 1969. He attended Emmetsburg Community College and Iowa Central Community College, where he studied Agricultural Business. He later completed a Management Development Program in 1977 at Iowa Central in Fort Dodge.

On July 10, 1970, Allen married Dorothy Schafer at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Bend, Iowa. To this union three daughters were born; Lucretia Marie, Stephanie Kae, and Alaina Marie.

In 1970 Allen and Dorothy made their home in Ottosen where Allen worked and later managed the Ottosen Elevator. In 1984, the family moved to Clarion where Allen became the new manager for the Clarion Co-op. Allen helped this one-site co-op grow to six locations. He led North Central Co-op as General Manager until his retirement in 2003.

Other organizations that Allen was involved with were; serving as a Chief for the Ottosen Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Clarion United Methodist Church, the Clarion Lions Club, served on the Clarion City Council, and was also a member of The Iowa Institute of Cooperatives, and was active in several agricultural related businesses.

Allen enjoyed traveling, being outdoors farming, golfing, and grilling. His favorite time was spent with his family, especially grandchildren.

Allen Struthers is survived by his wife, Dorothy Struthers of Clarion, three children; Lucretia Marie (Bill) Hosfelt of Massena, Iowa, Stephanie Kae (Rob) Ticknor of Massena, Iowa, and Alaina Marie Struthers of Clarion, Iowa; six grandchildren; Alicia and Keagan Hosfelt, Trace, Drew, Macy, and Cade Ticknor; his mother, LaVonna Struthers of West Bend, Iowa, abrother Ronald (Dorothy) Struthers of Arvada, Colorado, three sisters, Virginia Anderson of Ames, Iowa, Beverly Jensen of Sibley, Iowa, and Vera Jean (Blake) Banwart of West Bend, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Allen is preceded in death by his father Ralph Struthers.
