Obituary


Anna Brinkman, age 88, of Dows passed Monday, November 24, 2014, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.

Anna Arlene, the daughter of Harry and Pearl McCormick was born June 25, 1926 near Popejoy. She attended country schools near Popejoy and graduated from Popejoy High School. Anna then attended Ellsworth where she received her Teacher’s Certificate and began teaching at area country schools. Anna later would attend Iowa Central Community College and received her Associated Degree in Nursing Home Administration.

Anna married Eddie Bridges and the couple was blessed with a son Gair. Anna later married Melvin Brinkman. The couple made their home in Dows and were blessed with three children, Margaret, Bart and Brad. Anna was a very busy lady throughout her life. She worked at nearly ever business in Dows at one time or another. After receiving her Nursing Home Administration Degree, Anna managed numerous Nursing Homes around the state of Iowa. Anna worked as a housewife and mother, but made the utmost of all abilities to serve so many employers in her own hard nosed way. Most recently Anna had been working in one of the jobs she loved most, the flower shop.

Anna was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dows, where she served as Treasurer. She also served as President for the Dows Senior Citizens and served with the Dows American Legion Auxiliary.

Anna is survived by her children, Gair Bridges of Eldora, Margaret Worden and husband Lynn of Dows, Brad Brinkman and wife Kim of Dows, twenty grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Eddie and Melvin, son, Bart in 2013, grandson, Raleigh, two sisters and two brothers.
