Obituary


Ardith Michelson, 91, of Klemme passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Kanawha Lutheran Church with Reverend Charlotte White and Reverend Geoffrey White officiating.  Burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha. 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from 5-7 pm at Ewing Funeral Home, 118 East Second Street, in Kanawha and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Ardith Mae Michelson, the daughter of Alvis and Tillie (Severson) Berhow was born on January 24, 1920, in Twin Lake Township near Kanawha.

Ardith attended the rural school at Kanawha and high school in Belmond.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church.

Ardith was united in marriage to Raymond Glenn Michelson on June 12, 1937 in Austin, Minnesota.  The couple farmed in the Goodell area for 6 years and in the Klemme area for 22 years.  They lived in the Goodell area for several years.  Raymond was killed in a car accident in Mason City on January 23, 1984.

Ardith was united in marriage to Howard Shahan on January 3, 1992.  Howard passed away in 1994 and Ardith later moved to Klemme.

Ardith is survived by five children: Doyce Michelson and his wife Jeanette of Mt. Pleasant; Marvin Michelson and his wife Barbara of Millersville, Missouri; Sandra Smith and her husband Rae of Liberty, Missouri; Karen Hanig and her husband Bill of Wesley; Linda Barton and her husband Bob of Salem, Iowa; stepdaughter Mary Kay Nelson of Belmond; 21 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, two step grandchildren and a few step great-grandchildren; two sisters: Thelma Boller of San Luis Obispo, California, and Orpha Trees of Riverside, California and one brother, Mike Berhow of Belmond.

Ardith is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Raymond Michelson and Howard Shahan, five sisters, two brothers, one grandchild, Glenda Smith and two great-grandchildren, Jeremy Hanig and Wyatt Smith.
