Obituary


Arlene M. Zeigler, 91, of Kanawha passed away Monday, November 24, 2003, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Arlene, the daughter of Henry and Marguerite (Johnson) Severson, was born September 2, 1912, in rural Kanawha.  She grew up in the Kanawha area where she attended country schools.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

On December 9, 1930, Arlene was united in marriage with Elmer J. Zeigler in Britt.  The couple farmed in the Kanawha area until 1960, when they moved to Kanawha.  Arlene was employed by the Kanawha Community School in the hot lunch program.

Arlene's life centered on her family, friends, and church.  Every child, grandchild, great-grandchild and great-great grandchild was remembered at his or her birthday with a card.  She enjoyed quilting, baking, and spending time with her family.  Arlene was a member of the Kanawha United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, and a quilting group.

Arlene is survived by her children: Hazel Wood and her husband, Eugene of Garner, Lyle Zeigler and his wife, Dawn of Kanawha, Jim Zeigler and his wife, Joyce of Estherville, Mardell Meyer and her husband, Gary of Belmond, Merlin Zeigler and his wife, Marilyn of Kanawha, David Zeigler and his wife, Margaret of Clarion, Joan Boeck and her husband, Charles of Denison; daughter-in-law Mary Zeigler of Kanawha; 26 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law Ruby Zeigler of Kanawha; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer, December 15, 1975, son Wayne November 14, 1995, grandson-in-law Monty Hempstead, seven sisters, and one brother.
